Anxiety and Mood Issues

Mood and anxiety issues are among the most common ailments that affect individuals within society.

Mood Issues

Mood issues are commonplace within society and they range on a spectrum of severity and duration. Feeling low is natural after distressing events like bereavement or major life changes like becoming unemployed. These feelings which may include feeling: exhausted, angry, sorrow, irritable, worried, or joyless, will typically pass with time. However some individuals will want and benefit from talking through these life journeys within the therapeutic environment; having a place to reflect, process, and find meaning in their experience.

Sometimes life events can be a precursor to more severe low mood which has many of the same features as low mood; but the distress felt by individuals takes place over a longer-time frame and interrupts life functioning more intensely. Severe low mood is often a result of a number of factors including not only a stressful life event, but also genes, biology, and unhealthy thinking patterns. Depression and Bipolar Disorder are two examples of more severe low mood. Extensive research over many decades has shown that therapy is effective for many people in helping to alleviate low mood states.

J.B Therapy can assist individuals with low mood with evidenced-based treatments that help alleviate symptoms experienced. J.B Therapy will also work with in conjunction with other health professionals (e.g., GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists) when required.

Anxiety

Anxiety is another common issue experienced within society. Anxiety is a natural and normally short-term response to stress-inducing situations for people; from speaking in public, a first day at a new job, or when trying something new for the first time. Most people will feel some anxiety in these situations and this can include anxious thoughts and feelings, or physical sensations, or a combination of all three.

However sometimes these thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations are more severe and frequent for some people and cause major distress and affect daily functioning. These more severe forms of anxiety include generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), specific phobia, and panic disorder. Like low mood a number of factors are thought to increase the likelihood of anxiety occurring including genes, biology, unhelpful thinking, stressful life events, as well as unhelpful coping styles. Extensive research over many decades has shown that therapy is effective for many people in helping to alleviate anxiety.
